My Favourite Cookery Books: Part Two (A Journey Through Time and Taste)

Welcome to this week's Ask Charlie! For this week's video, I escaped the rain and nestled down with a warm mug, to delve into Part Two of my top cookery books.

First up, a sentimental favourite - "Mrs. Beeton's Everyday Cookery.” A wonderfully thoughtful anniversary gift from my husband, this book is rich with history and filled to the brim with classic recipes. I adore flicking through the pages and imagining the meals being created in the kitchens of yesteryear, and love that it still includes timeless flavours.

Next, "Foraging with Kids" by Adele Nozedar. For me, this embodies hugely cherished memories of exploring nature's own edible goodies with my Mother and now with my own children. Just as valuable for an adult as for children, this is not just a guide to nature’s kitchen but also a treasure trove of delightful recipes to hunt for and enjoy as a family.

Journeying across continents, next up is Australian Women's Weekly’s “One Pot” cookery book. This book quite literally makes my mouth water and features some brilliantly simple yet delicious meals.

"The Poachers Cookbook" by our dear late friend Prue Coats contains over 150 traditional Game Country Recipes, and Leon's “Happy Salads" prove that salads needn't be mundane!

Lastly, Annabel Karmel’s “Favourite Family Recipes” was a highly recommended one-stop weaning manual, and no tour of my cookery book shelves would be complete without "Birthday Cakes for Kids" by Annie Ring! This is more than just a recipe book; this book brings treasured memories flooding back and is a testament to the love poured into every creation I worked on for the children over the years.

I hope this selection inspires you to continue to explore more recipes in the kitchen and to also use them to create beloved memories to cherish - I know I certainly do!
