Our Handcuffed Journey | What the Cameras Didn’t Show

In this week’s Ask Charlie, Rob joins me for a proper chat about our experience on Handcuffed and the journey that led us to becoming the winners of the very first series.

We had actually recorded this once already, only to discover there was no audio at all, which feels rather fitting considering how much of our real experience never quite made it onto screen. So this conversation became a chance to sit down, reflect, laugh, and share the fuller version of what it was really like from the moment we were first approached, to meeting one another for the first time, to the more surreal, uncomfortable, funny, and unexpectedly moving parts of the whole adventure.

We talk about how we were cast, what we first thought of each other, the days spent with our families, camping, working, racing, being pushed well beyond our comfort zones, and the many moments that never made the final edit. More than anything, this episode is about what happens when two very different people are thrown into something unusual and come through it with genuine respect, a lot of laughter, and a friendship neither of us expected.

There is something quite lovely, I think, in looking back on an experience like this and realising that what carried us through was not just determination, but humour, kindness, and a willingness to meet each other where we were.

I hope you enjoy listening to us both.

Love, Charlie x
